MASTERPLAN wurde 2002 von Roland Grapow und Uli Kusch gegründet, die sich beide gerade von Helloween getrennt hatten. Diese neue Band entwickelte sich zu einer Größe, mit der man sich schnell identifizieren konnte: Das Debütalbum „Masterplan“ sorgte Anfang 2003 für großes Aufsehen in der Szene. In den nächsten zehn Jahren folgten vier hochgelobte Studioalben.

Als MASTERPLAN 2002 gegründet wurde, galt die Band schnell als die Melodic-Metal-Sensation.
Die beiden Ex-Helloween-Mitglieder Roland Grapow und Uli Kusch schlossen sich sofort mit dem erstklassigen Sänger Jorn Lande zusammen und ergänzten diesen Mix um Axel Mackenrott (Keyboards) und Bassist Jan S. Eckert. Eine Supergroup war geboren.

2024 kehrte die Band zurück und ging mit FIREWIND auf Europatournee. Es war ihre erste Indoor-Tour seit 10 Jahren und sie präsentierte die neue Single „Rise Again“ ihres lang erwarteten neuen Studioalbums „Metalmorphosis“, das im Januar 2026 (Frontiers) erscheinen wird. Die erste Videosingle erscheint im November 2025.
